Global Masterpieces: A Legacy of Knowledge

The Tohoku University Library has recently reopened, following renovations that include the newly established 'Global Floor'. This section of the library holds resources in multiple languages as well as information on studying abroad, and study rooms.

To mark the occasion, the library is holding an exhibition entitled,'Global Masterpieces: A Legacy of Knowledge'. The exhibit will feature well known classics in Western literature from the library's collection, such as a first edition of 'Capital: A Critique of Political Economy' and Darwin's, 'On the Origin of Species'.

There will be material on display that show early influences from the West, including the first large scale anatomical text to be translated from a Western language into Japanese (1774), and a cookbook of Western recipes (1872). The exhibit will also explore early influences of Japanese culture on the West.
