Program:
Following the end of the Cold War, the proliferation of new complex security challenges and actors have created new challenges to the analysis of Japan's foreign policy.

Applying the concept of risk, Paul O'Shea, Ra Mason and Sebastian Maslow untangle these complex dynamics and seek new insights into Japan's foreign policy process.

Based on their recent edited volume entitled Risk State: Japan's Foreign Policy in an Age of Uncertainty (Farnham: Ashgate, March 2015) this symposium will illustrate Japan's responses to new security challenges including territorial disputes, North Korea's missile and nuclear proliferation, China's rise, international terrorism, natural disasters, and environmental pollution.

The discussion is joined by Professor Yusuke Anami (Graduate School of Law, Tohoku University) and is chaired by Professor Yasunobu Okabe (Graduate School of Law, Tohoku University).

The event will be held in English. No registration is required to attend the lecture.

Note:

Registration is required if you wish to participate in the reception held afterwards at a cost of 4,000 yen.
