The Tohoku University Foreign Students Association (TUFSA) is organizing an overnight trip to Minamisanriku, a coastal town in northern Miyagi prefecture that was badly hit by the tsunami of 2011.

The study tour will include a closer look at the affected areas, and interactive activities with local residents. Participants will have a unique opportunity to learn about tsunamis, earthquakes and how to prevent them; as well as take part in discussions about strategies for recovery and how to move on with life after a disaster.
There are also plans for a small project and a video to commemorate the time spent with the local residents.
The trip is open to all interested international and exchange students at Tohoku University, but places on the bus are limited to the first 35 who register. The study tour costs 2,000 yen for transport and accommodation. Meals are not included in the fee.
