Study Tour of Hiraizumi World Heritage Sites

The Faculty of Arts and Letters invites international students to join a study tour in Iwate Prefecture in November. Students will travel to Rikuzentakata, where they will spend the first day helping with the clean-up efforts in disaster affected areas. They will stay overnight before visiting World Heritage sites in Hiraizumi on the second day of the tour.

The trip is sponsored by the Nakajima Foundation, and participation is free. But students will be responsible for the cost of their own meals on the first day.

  • Date: November 7 (Saturday) ~ November 8 (Sunday)
  • Location: Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture
  • Number of participants: 20 International students, 10 Japanese students.
  • Cost: Free, with the exception of food costs on the first day.
  • Registration deadline: October 20

Saturday, November 7

Morning: Travel from the Faculty of Arts and Letters at Kawauchi Campus, to Rikuzentakata City.
Afternoon: Visit disaster-hit areas and listen to talks by locals.
Evening: Take part in a disaster prevention card game.

Sunday, November 8

Morning: Round table discussion with locals affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
Volunteer clean-up activity
Afternoon: Visit World Heritage sites at Hiraizumi

Registration must be done in person, and is on a first come first served basis until October 20.
