Homecoming Day 2017

Tohoku University will celebrate its 110th anniversary at this year's Homecoming Event, held over two days from September 30~October 1, at Tohoku University's Centennial Hall.

It's the largest alumni event on the annual calendar and is a chance for alumni to revisit the campus, meet with former teachers, friends and current students. We also invite friends of the university to come and spend the day with us. There will be myriad food stalls as well as concerts, talks, exhibitions throughout the day.

Tohoku University's museum and botanical gardens will also waive their entrance fees to Homecoming Day guests.

Know Our History - Saturday~Sunday 10am~5pm

To coincide with the 450th anniversary of the birth of Sendai's famous samurai Lord Date Masamune, Tohoku University's Main Library will hold two special exhibitions.

  • The Amazing Collections of Tohoku University
    A display of some of the cultural treasures from Tohoku University's rare collections.
  • Once Upon a Time on Kawauchi Campus
    A collection of artefacts excavated from Kawauchi Campus will be on display. Kawauchi's South Campus was once part of Sendai Castle's grounds, with the North Campus used as samurai quarters.

Enjoy our Culture - Saturday ~ Sunday, 11am~5pm

Enjoy the spirit of Sendai's famous Aoba Festival, with Suzume Odori dances and festival floats in front of Kawauchi Hagi Hall. There will also be stalls featuring a range of goods including original cakes, cookies and sweets created especially for Homecoming Day by local patisseries.

Gather With Friends - Saturday 1:30pm~4:30pm

Friends and alumni will gather at Kawauchi Hagi Hall to share stories and memories about Tohoku University at a ceremony to celebrate the university's 110th anniversary. Everyone will be invited to sing "Midori no oka" the university's alumni song. It was written y singer/songwriter and Tohoku University graduate Kazumasa Oda following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
