What can you expect at the event?

A lot of great ideas! The event will be held in an open and friendly environment where participants can share their thoughts and connect with like-minded people. There will also be light entertainment to make the day a truly memorable one.

About this year's theme

The TEDxTohokuUniversity 2018 conference aims to bring students, academic staff, alumni and the people of Sendai together to discuss Tohoku's future. This year's theme "Blueprints," is open to interpretation. For some, it is the plan to a brighter future while for others it is a structured sense of how to better themselves, contribute to the community or the ever-expanding world of technology. The conference will focus on three main areas: personal lifestyle, community and technology.

Through connecting with our wider community, we hope to inspire change. TEDxTohokuUniversity 2018 will not only stretch your imagination and allow new ideas to foster but we hope to assist you in the process of drawing blueprints of your own.

What is TED?

TED is a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas, most commonly in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics -- from science to business to global issues - in more than 110 languages.

Following in the successful footsteps of TED, TEDx is an independently organized event that similarly aims to encourage the sharing of ideas in communities around the world.
With support and supervision from Tohoku University, a group of students will be bringing the platform to Aobayama campus this year.

What is the difference between TED and TEDx?

The difference between TED and TEDx events are that the former takes more of a global approach while the latter typically focuses on a local community that concentrates on local voices. The 'x' in TEDx stands for independently organized TED event.

TEDxTohokuUniversity, as an individually organized branch of the famous TED talks, provides a platform for the University and its various stakeholders both within and outside of the context of the university. The driving concept behind TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) incites the sharing of multidisciplinary innovations, ideas and inspiring stories with a broad audience both on and offline.
