The Advanced Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University has a vacancy for a postdoc researcher.
The discovery of new molecular functional materials such as superconductors and magnets (including quantum spin liquids) is a strong feature of our research effort in the Functional Molecular Materials Laboratory at the AIMR.
Our present research programme focuses on new superconducting and magnetic materials built from molecular components such as C60 and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). We study using advanced characterization techniques and unique and exciting compounds whose properties challenge theory for satisfactory explanations.
Although our emphasis is on motivation to pursue a high-level research career rather than past experience, possession of the following expertise and skills will be an advantage:
- synthesis and structural analysis of functional molecular materials (PhD in Chemistry) or
electronic and magnetic characterization of solid state materials (PhD in Physics).
Research will involve extensive use of domestic and international synchrotron X-ray facilities and close collaboration with other research groups and experts both in Japan and abroad.
- Ability to pursue research activities in English
Good communication, oral presentation and research paper writing skills
- Ability to work well independently and in a team
