Brawijaya University Hosts Environmental Studies Seminar: Agreement Signing Ceremony Held

On December 18, Brawijaya University in Indonesia hosted the Tohoku University 2019 Environmental Studies Seminar.

At the seminar, five researchers from Tohoku University, including Professor Noriyoshi Tsuchiya - Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Sciences - introduced the university's efforts to solve environmental issues such as those related to geothermal energy and water purification. Many faculty members and students from Brawijaya University, along with faculty members from the Bandung Institute of Technology, attended the seminar. Participants were keen to learn more about Tohoku University's initiatives.

Tohoku University has accepted many international students from Brawijaya University. Among the more notable exchange programs is the Linkage Program, in which Indonesian government officials can obtain degrees from both universities. The program is highly regarded, and those who have studied Human Security, including related environmental issues, are now employed as experts and leaders within Indonesian society. In his opening remarks, Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi stated, "I am delighted that Tohoku University's educational and research resources are one of the cornerstones of Indonesia's development."

On the same day, Brawijaya University and Tohoku University held a signing ceremony to renew the existing academic agreement between them. At the signing ceremony, the Brawijaya University's Rector Nuhfil Hanani and Vice President Yamaguchi signed the renewal agreement, and both expressed their strong hopes for the strengthening of cooperation between the two universities in the future.
