Tohoku University President Susumu Satomi and Associate Executive Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi attended the 9th Forum for Japanese and Chinese University Presidents, held recently at Kyushu University.

President Satomi delivered a keynote address in which he referred to the growing number of students studying abroad. He spoke of Tohoku University's own global vision and highlighted the many exchange programmes the university has with China.

The Forum for Japanese and Chinese University Presidents gives university presidents from both countries the rare opportunity to meet and discuss common issues. To that end, members participated in lively sessions through the day, including one led by students.

The event closed with the adoption of "The Fukuoka Declaration on the Internationalization of Japanese and Chinese Universities in the Global Era."

Since 2000, this forum has been held every two years. The 10th instalment will take place in 2017 at Northeastern University in Shenyang, China.
