Visit by New Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General Sapporo

On August 29, Ryan Ingrassia, the newly appointed Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General Sapporo, visited Tohoku University and paid a courtesy call on Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi.

During their meeting, VP Yamaguchi spoke of the many American students on campus, and introduced the ongoing collaborative and exchange activities between Tohoku University and its American partner universities.

He made special mention of the University of Washington-Tohoku University: Academic Open Space, citing it as a good example of a successful industry-academic collaboration.

The VP also explained the new initiatives aimed at further internationalizing the campus and academic curriculum. These include inviting prominent researchers to the Tohoku Forum for Creativity, and offering more student accommodation in the form of the new University House Aobayama dormitories.

Mr. Ingrassia also shared his thoughts on ways to further promote exchanges between the two sides. He added that he was impressed with what he had heard and enthusiastic to see where the new developments lead.
