Detection of the escape UV light from galaxies at 12 billion years ago
he research group including Tohoku University succeeded in detection of the strong UV light from a dozen of distant, or ancient galaxies, approximately at 12 billion years ago, which escapes from the galaxies to ionize the surrounding intergalactic hydrogen. The results obtained by using Subaru 8.2m telescope is considered to be an important step toward unveiling the mysterious"cosmic reionization", or the end of the "dark age" of the universe.
