Professor Takakiyo Nakazawa at Center for Atmospheric and Oceanic Studies, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in autumn, 2009.

 Professor Nakazawa has contributed to the development of geoenvironmental science and meteorology. His researches are on geophysics including studies of optical absorption property of gas, wide-area observation of atmosphere and ocean, analysis of ice sheet core collected at north and south polar regions, development and practical use of atmospheric transport model, and promotion of studies of greenhouse gas vibration and circulation.
