President Akihisa Inoue visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to meet with President Tony F. Chan and other staff, and signed a university agreement and memorandum of student exchange with HKUST on February 1, 2011.

 HKUST was established in 1991 to mark the 20th anniversary with a high reputation in the world. Both of Tohoku University and HKUST are members of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APPU) and the Association of East Asia Research Universities (AEARU), which provides the network between the two. The newly signed agreement will be expected to promote a collaborative relationship including student exchange.
