Development of highly-efficient decomposition technology of persistent substances in a liquid by micro discharge bubble jet (by Professor Hideya Nishiyama at Institute of Fluid Science)

A research group led by Professor Hideya Nishiyama at Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University has developed a technology to effectively decompose "persistent substances", which are difficult to decompose in a liquid, using bubble jet with streamer discharge. A type of OH radical generated in a bubble or near the bubble interface by pulsed discharge enhances the decomposition. This achievement is expected to be applied to water purification, industrial effluent treatment and reactive water production in the agricultural and fishery industries.
