Associate Professor Takeshi Kuritani at Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University (Current affiliation: Faculty of Science, Osaka City University) and Professor Eiji Ohtani at Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University have revealed that water has been stored in the mantle transition zone of the earth for over a billion years, at the first time in the world, as a collaborative research with Team Leader Jun-Ichi Kimura at Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC).
