Induction of cells forming enamel on teeth from iPS cells -Expectation for application to tooth regeneration-
Tohoku University has successfully induced ameloblasts, which form enamel on teeth, from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells), in the process of the elucidation of stem-cell fate determination via interactions with dental epithelium. This achievement has been acquired in collaboration with Dr. Makiko Arakaki at Tohoku University Hospital, Professor Satoshi Fukumoto at Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University, National Institutes of Health, Iwate Medical University and Tokyo University of Science.
The research result has been published online in The Journal of Biological Chemistry. The paper's title is "Role of epithelial-stem cell interactions during dental cell differentiation".
