The modulation of cardiovascular functions as a network mechanism
A research group led by Professor Hiroaki Shimokawa of Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine has demonstrated that the vascular system works as a network with internal organs and tissues. Blood vessels are important to provide blood and oxygen to internal organs of the body. Vascular dysfunctions are known to cause various disorders such as atherosclerosis. Henceforth this study may serve to explain the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and help in the development of new drugs. This dissertation has been published in Circulation Research, an official journal of the American Heart Association, on June 22. The paper's title is "Essential role of bone marrow for microvascular endothelial and metabolic functions in mice."
