Discovery of a molecule controlling microtubule-dependent anterograde melanin transport - The last missing machinery finally discovered in the transport mechanisms with 3 pathways to carry melanin pigments -

A research group led by Graduate Student Morie´ Ishida and Professor Mitsunori Fukuda of Graduate School of Life Sciences, Tohoku University has identified the molecule which controlled anterograde melanin transport on microtubules. This is the first documentary evidence that melanin pigments were transported by membrane trafficking proteins along microtubules to the peripheral area of cells. The results of this research were published online in the British scientific magazine Journal of Cell Science.
