The Tohoku University team has won third place at The 3rd International Contest of Applications in Nano/Micro Technologies Contest (iCAN'12)
At The 3rd International Contest of Applications in Nano/Micro Technologies Contest (iCAN'12) held beginning July 6, 2012 for seven days at Beijing, the six member team of students Team Natural Science of Tohoku University won 3rd place. The team was comprised of the following students: Kazuyuki Yaegashi (1st year Doctoral Program, Advanced Electrical Energy Systems Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering), Shu Fujiwara (4th Year Department of Information and Intelligent Systems, School of Engineering), Kazuya Sase (2nd Year Master's Program, Department of Bioengineering and Robotics, Graduate School of Engineering), Taiki Matsunaga (2nd Year Master's Program, Department of Bioengineering and Robotics, Graduate School of Engineering), Kentaro Watanabe (2nd Year Department of Earth Science), and Ith Vannsith (4th Year Department of Information and Intelligent Systems, School of Engineering).
This contest is judged on new applications and prototypes using MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology. A total of 19 teams advanced to iCAN'12 Worldwide Conference where the participants were selected from 7 nations and over 5,000 students from the preliminaries. Team Natural Science advanced with a fourth place entry at the Japan Contest which was held at Sendai in May.
