Creation of pure nanodrugs (PND) with anti-cancer properties -Towards a next-generation drug delivery system without harmful side effects-
A research group led by Associate Professor Hitoshi Kasai of Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University in cooperation with a group led by Assistant Professor Tatsuya Murakami of Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences, Kyoto University (WPI-iCeMS), has synthesized some water-insoluble dimerized compounds of SN-38, a strong anti-cancer agent. And, by applying these compounds to our original nanonization technology of the reprecipitation method, the anti-carcinogenic PND of approximately 50 nm with no carrier could be successfully obtained.
