Successful development of high power torque motor without the use of magnets: World's first axial gap in-wheel SR motor
Professor Osamu Ichinokura, Associate Professor Kenji Nakamura, and Assistant Professor Hiroki Goto, Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University, has developed an axial gap type switched reluctance (SR) motor, completely free of rare earth magnets, while providing comparable torque with commonly used motors using rare earth magnets. Development and testing applications for use in electric powered cars with eye toward further utilization and study will be continued.
