Successful demonstration of fully self-powered vibration suppression, realization of both vibration suppression and energy harvesting: Development of vibration controller using the original self-sufficient vibration suppression technology
Associate Professor Kanjuro Makihara of Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University, has developed a digital self-powered vibration suppressor, designing a creative digital processor system which computes advanced control operations. Using this invention, a fully self-powered vibration controller that operates without an external power source was realized. With incorporation of piezoelectric and converse effects in piezoelectric materials, the technology was effectively achieved. The system is a vast improvement over conventional systems that could only suppress simple and monotonous vibrations. This development has succeeded in suppressing complex waveform vibrations without external power sources.
