Anomalous signal from sulphur atoms in protein crystallographic data from an X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL)
A joint research study team composed of the Max-Planck-Institut, Tohoku University, Kyoto University, Hiroshima University, Riken SPring-8 center, and Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute succeeded in the detection of the anomalous signal of the naturally occurring sulfur atoms in a protein, utilizing SACLA, an X-Ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) at RIKEN Harima. This research using the XFEL is hoped to lead to the unraveling of the presently unknown structure of protein molecules.
