Successfully Relaying Messages over a 2.5 km Distance Using only Smartphones' Wifi Functionality: A First Step Towards Practical Use

The research group led by Professor Nei Kato and Associate Professor Hiroki Nishiyama from the Graduate School of Information Sciences and the Research Organization of Electrical Communication, at Tohoku University, successfully relayed messages utilizing only the WiFi functionality of smartphones on February 18, 2013 over a distance of approximately 2.5 km from Nishi park (Aoba-ku, Sendai) to JR Sendai station.
