9/16-9/18 International Mercury Science Symposium 2008

The 5th BepiColombo SWT was held from 16 (Tue) to 18 (Thu) in September
2008 in Sendai, Japan.
 
With 97 participants (11 from Tohoku University and 59 from overseas),
the topics such as "Mercury Gravity Field Observations during MESSENGER
Flyby" and "Highlights of SELENE (Kaguya)" were discussed,and Science
Instrument tutorials for young researchers were also held in the symposium.
This symposium was hosted in cooperation with JAXA/BepiColombo Project,
JAXA and The Global COE program, Tohoku University

The Launching Ceremony of Tohoku-RITM Collaborating Research Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases was conducted on October 20 at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), Muntinlupa City, Philippines.
Dr Socorro Lupisan (Assistant Director, RITM) and Dr Histoshi Oshitani (Professor, Tohoku University) made welcome remarks. Dr Yoshiyuki Nagai (Director RIKEN, CRNID) delivered the presentation about the overview of
the program and Dr Remigio Olveda(Director, RITM) explained about the Tohoku-RITM collaborative research. Memorandum of Agreement on the collaborative research between Tohoku University Graduate school of Medicine and RITM were sighed by Dr Masayuki Yamamoto (Dean, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine) and Dr Olveda (Photo left).
The congratulatory speech were delivered by Hon. Toichi Sakata (Deputy Minister, MEXT), Dr Yamamoto, Hon. Jiro Okuyama(Minister, Head of Chancery, Embassy of Japan to the Philippines), Hon. Francisco Duque (Securetary of Health, Philippines DOH), respectively.
At the same day of this ceremony, Agreement on the collaborative research between Tohoku Univerisity Graduate school of Medicine and San Lazaro Hostpital(Manilla) was established (Photo right).
