Curriculum of each Faculty and Graduate School
Tohoku University provides incremental instruction in all faculties and research courses from admission according to the educational purposes established by the faculty.
An enriched curriculum including consolidated primary subjects of study is prerequisite to taking specialized courses. First year and second year students who have learned all educational subjects in the curriculum thereafter progress to third and fourth year studies of specialized subjects (continuing to sixth year for medical course at the School of Medicine, and the pharmaceutical course faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences) and to graduate school students who wish to deepen their expertise.

Interdisciplinary Education
Interdisciplinary education is given for all-campus students, primarily freshmen and sophomores, at Kawauchi-Kita Campus.
The object of this education is to provide fundamental education which can not be attained through specialized education. All instructors, including those of affiliated research institutes, are involved.
Specialized education
Specialized education is an educational course provided by every faculty (each subject, each department, each course) through which students absorb high-grade and specialized knowledge, technology and accomplishments.
In many faculties, this education is given substantially from the latter half of the sophomore year.

Graduate school education
Graduate school (research course, school of education)
All faculties have their dedicated graduate schools for performance of higher-order education and research.
In all, 15 research courses and school of educational are provided, including the Graduate School of International Cultural Studies, Graduate School of Information Sciences, Graduate School of Life Sciences, Graduate School of Environmental Studies, and Graduate School of Educational Informatics Education Divisionto respond to diverse academic ambitions of students.
Professional graduate school
Cultivation of highly educated professionals is undertaken in legal, administration, and financial accounting fields.
Tohoku University established professional graduate schools such as the Law School, School of Public Policy, and the Accounting School, which nurture and improve human resources for service as specialists in every field.
