1. National Health Insurance

The foreign students who live in Japan and whose residence status is "overseas study" must have National Health Insurance (usually called "Koku-ho") coverage, irrespective of the overseas study period (the affiliation is obligatory).
The application procedures to the National Health Insurance can be completed at the place where you did foreign resident registration. When you take your foreign resident's registration card with you to the front desk and go through official procedures there, the National Health Insurance card is delivered later. If you get the insurance, you must pay monthly premiums for the insurance. However, there is a reduced-payment plan by which premiums of low-income persons can be reduced. For details, please consult with a person in charge of National Health Insurance.

In addition, when a health certificate for application to scholarship and other programs is required, the health administration center issues a certificate according to the results of a regular health check.
