On June 8, a four-person delegation from the Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University visited Tohoku University and met with Executive Vice Presidents Toshiya Ueki and Masahiro Yamaguchi. The delegation included the Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University rector, Professor Mustafa Verşan Kök.
The Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University is scheduled to open in Ankara in October 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity for the delegation to present an overview of the university, as well as future programs and curriculum.
After the overview, the parties discussed research cooperation and student exchange between Turkey and Tohoku University, noting that the 'Japan brand' enjoys extremely strong popularity among Turkish students.

The delegation also visited the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) and met with its Director Shunichi Koshimura, Professor Shinji Toda, and Associate Professor Susumu Ohno.
Productive discussion about earthquakes took place, a challenge shared by both countries, and both explored possible avenues for research cooperation related to disaster science.
