Clarivate Analytics has released its list of Highly Cited Researchers for 2025, which includes seven names from Tohoku University.

The annual list identifies influential researchers who have consistently received high recognition over a decade of citation analysis. It selects the top 1% of authors who have the highest number of citations across 21 research fields in the natural sciences, social sciences and cross-field categories.

For the 2025 list, 6,868 researchers from institutions in 60 countries and regions were selected. From Tohoku University, three researchers were selected in the Cross-field category (out of 3,569 total), one in Biology and Biochemistry (314 total), one in Computer Science (119 total) and two in Engineering (186 total).

Cross Field:

• Thomas P. Russell (Professor and Principal Investigator, AIMR)
• Magda Titirici (Professor and Principal Investigator, AIMR)
• Hideo Ohno (Professor Emeritus and Special Advisor to the President)

Biology and Biochemistry:

• Masayuki Yamamoto (Special Professor Emeritus and Director of the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization)

Computer Science:

• Nei Kato (Professor, Graduate School of Information Sciences)

Engineering

• Hideaki Kobayashi (Professor, Institute of Fluid Science)
• Akihiro Hayakawa (Associate Professor, Institute of Fluid Science)
