Calling all runners! Applications now open for 2017 Student Relay Race

Tohoku University's Athletic Club is holding its 43rd ekiden or relay race on Saturday, June 17. Each leg of the course will take racers from Kawauchi Campus through to Aobayama Campus and back again.

The event is divided into two main categories: the general division and the sports club division. Teams wanting to participate will need to apply by Friday, June 9.

Applications can be submitted on weekdays in front of Coop on Kawauchi Campus between 12:15~12:45pm, or at the Athletic Club Rooms in the Kawauchi Sub Arena Building from 4:30~6:30pm.

Date: June 17
Time: Registration starts at 12 noon, opening ceremony starts at 12:30pm
Race start: 1:00pm, outside the AB Lecture Building at Kawauchi Campus
Race finish: 3:30pm

Route: Kawauchi Coop > Kawauchi Kameoka Police Box > Kameoka Hachiman-gu Shrine > Aobayama Mountain Equestrian Club > School of Science > Aoba Bridge > Kawauchi Coop

Teams: Four people per team. Each member will run the entire course to complete a leg.

Note :
  • The relay race will still go ahead if it rains. If there is a cancellation, a representative from each team will be notified by phone or email.
  • During the race, contestants must keep to the left at all times, and abide to rules given by course personnel or they risk being disqualified.
  • Teams are responsible for their own warm up before the race.
  • The race will be monitored for safety. A doctor will be on standby at the AB Lecture Building on Kawauchi Campus.
