University Pop Band on Quest to Entertain

January 19 marked day 568 of youtube broadcasts from pop group 'Nihonjin'. The three member band of Tohoku University students and alumni are in the second year of a mission to amuse and entertain audiences far and wide. Their daily online broadcasts include music, skits and comedy.

Based in Sendai city, band members are made up of M size Sakuma (lead vocalist), Backpack Imai (guitarist) and Pension Sasaki (bassist). Having recently switched to a commercial record label, Nihonjin is due to release a mini album this year and hope to perform to large audiences nationwide.

Concerned about the many issues and pressures that Japanese students face, the band have visited more than 20 junior high schools in Miyagi prefecture to give advice on sitting high school entrance exams and talk with students. They have even written a song about 'jobs' which highlights various occupations, and the importance of the roles that people play in making society tick.

The musicians not only write and perform their own songs, but have also written music for popular Japanese groups including 'Arashi' and 'Sexy Zone'. To tune in to daily broadcasts, you can follow Nihonjin on their youtube channel. Videos are broadcast at 7:00pm.
