Executive Vice-President Ueki Participates in the Third Japan-India Universities Forum

Tohoku University Executive Vice President Ueki travelled to India to attend the third Japan-India Universities Forum, held on October 19. Organized every year since 2023 by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), this year's event saw 34 Indian academic institutions and 28 Japanese research institutes and businesses converge on New Delhi to take part in discussions.

Dr. Kazuhiro Hashimoto kicked off the first of three sessions with his opening remarks. These remarks were followed by speeches from Sibi George, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Japan; Abhay Karandikar, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Science & Technology (DST); Hiroki Takaya, Deputy Director-General of the Science and Technology Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT); and Takashi Ariyoshi, Chargé d'affaires ad interim of Japan to India.

The second session focused on promoting collaboration between Japan and India's best and brightest and cultivating strong human resources capable of playing an active role in the region. Three roundtable groups discussed strategies to enhance study abroad programs, where EVP Ueki's group engaged in productive and insightful discussion on the subject. The third session wrapped up the event with one-on-one meetings between participants from Japanese and Indian universities.

Throughout the forum, participants engaged in lively discussions about potential collaborations between Japanese and Indian universities, setting a positive and successful tone for the event.
