On May 10, President Li Yanrong of Sichuan University visited Tohoku University and met with Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki (General Affairs, Financial Affairs and International Relations) and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi (Education Reform and Global Engagement).
EVP Ueki opened the meeting by introducing some of the initiatives that Tohoku University is currently working on. In response, President Li stated that he would like to further increase student and faculty exchanges in fields in which Tohoku University excels, especially materials science and electrical engineering. This was followed by a discussion about the current situation regarding matters such as external funding and international student exchange at the two universities.
The party from Sichuan University also visited the University Archives and the Lu Xun Lecture Hall, as well as the Graduate School of Medicine, the Institute for Materials Research, the Research Institute of Electrical Communication and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science. The group met with the directors of each, and were introduced to the on-site facilities.
