EVP Toshiya Ueki visits Southwest University in China

On January 11, 2018, Tohoku University Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki visited Southwest University in China.

During the visit, EVP Ueki met with Southwest University's Vice President Yule Jin, with the Director of Education of the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Niigata, Zhang Yuansong, also in attendance.

The vice presidents exchanged opinions on the promotion of future exchanges based on the academic exchange agreement recently signed by the two universities.

EVP Ueki stressed the importance of the relationships Tohoku University has with Chinese universities, and expressed hopes that the many research and educational exchanges will continue in the future, a sentiment that VP Jin echoed.

On the same day, a research workshop on materials and energy was also held, with faculty and students from both universities participating, including the director of the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials Atsushi Muramatsu.

Presentations were made to announce recent research developments, followed by a discussion on the possibility of expanding future joint research.

Southwest University is a comprehensive university with a vast campus in Chongqing City. It was formed in September 2005 through the merging of Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University.

It is highly regarded in the fields of agriculture and psychology, as well as materials and energy science. It is especially renowned for its world leading research into domesticated silkworm genetics, which has led to the construction of the world's first silkworm genome database.
