Visit from the Vice Rector of the University of Indonesia

On April 27, Bambang Wibawarta, Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Indonesia, visited Tohoku University and met with Masahiro Yamaguchi, Vice President for Education Reform and Global Engagement.

This year, Japan and Indonesia are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, so the discussion centered on the possibility of the two universities jointly hosting an event.

Vice Rector Bambang Wibawarta, who received a Master's degree from Tohoku University's Graduate School of Arts and Letters, expressed his enthusiasm for the existing exchange programs that have allowed for both long-term and short-term exchanges between the two universities. He said that he was pleased to see that there has been a considerable increase in the number of Indonesian students at Tohoku University since his student days.

Professor Kazuko Suematsu, who is Special Advisor for International Affairs, also sat in on the meeting, and added her appreciation for the cooperation of the University of Indonesia in the running of the short-term student exchange programs.
