Akihiro Kijima and Kazue Kurihara were recognized as experts in their field of study by a select committee of vice presidents and department heads. The title took effect from April 1, 2016.
Professors Kijima and Kurihara now join seven other research professors who were named to the position last year.
The Research Professor System is a program that supports professorial staff who have made a sustained contribution towards academic excellence. To qualify, candidates should have received a certain amount of funding, or supported a specific project through playing a central role or securing funds.
The activities of research professors are expected to inspire other teaching staff and students.
