Change of Venue for Tohoku University Commencement Ceremony

Due to the earthquake that occurred on March 16, the venue of the commencement ceremony scheduled for Friday, March 25, has been changed from Kamei Arena Sendai (Sendai City Gymnasium) to Kawauchi Hagi Hall.

There will be no change in the times of the ceremony, which will still be held in two sessions - one for graduate students at 10 a.m., and the other for undergraduates at noon.

Due to the smaller capacity of Kawauchi Hagi Hall (1,235 seats), it is anticipated that not all graduating students who wish to participate in the ceremony will be able to enter the venue. Kawauchi North Campus Lecture Hall Building B will be used as a satellite venue, so all graduating students are requested to submit their attendance confirmation form as soon as possible.

If Kawauchi Hagi Hall cannot accommodate everyone who wishes to attend, students will be admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. Once full capacity is reached, remaining students will be asked to watch the live stream of the ceremony from the satellite venue instead.

Undergraduate students planning to continue their graduate studies at Tohoku University, are kindly requested to use the satellite venue if Kawauchi Hagi Hall is full.

All attendees should be appropriately dressed for the ceremony and must adhere to the university's coronavirus infection prevention measures. These include wearing a mask and maintaining a safe physical distance from other people.

Students should not attend the ceremony if they are unwell, have a fever or have been exposed to someone who is positive for COVID-19.
