New Crowdfunding Programme for Students Now Accepting Proposals

Tohoku University is launching a new crowdfunding programme called Tomoni, which invites students to submit a plan to realise a dream, tackle a social problem or engage in positive activism to improve their community.

The Tomoni (which means "Together" in Japanese) Programme will give students the chance to impact their own future by crowdsourcing their ideas and building a project with sponsors who share their vision.

Selected proposals will be presented on the university's crowdfunding platform and will receive funding of up to 500,000 yen. Alumni and members of the university will provide mentorship, professional advice and other (non-financial) support.

Students from all fields of study - and all nationalities - are welcome to apply, and diversity is strongly encouraged. Proposals must be for original projects that challenge students to benefit or create new value for society; solve a social problem; and/or improve personal development, leadership and skills.

Applications will be received and reviewed throughout October. Successful applicants will be notified in November and their projects will be presented for crowdfunding in December.
