New Website to Offer Assistance to Students and Researchers in Ukraine

The International Support Center has launched a new website that will bring together all projects and efforts by Tohoku University to support those impacted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.

The website aims to be a contact point for Ukrainian students and researchers who need help; as well as a place where resources and various forms of humanitarian assistance can be listed. These include support for students who are unable to continue their studies in Ukraine, and/or researchers who can no longer work safely in their labs there.

The International Support Center can also help to facilitate the delivery of aid to those who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

The website is still new, but updates and information will be added as more options become available, so please bookmark it. Visitors to the site can also find updates on - and donate to - the Humanitarian Support Fund, set up in March by the Tohoku University Fund and Alumni Association.

Tohoku University urges everyone in its community - including students and staff, and alumni members in Japan and abroad - to form a network of support. Anyone who is in a position to help and would like to, should contact the International Support Center.

The International Support Center was established in April 2022 to provide information and consultation services to foreign researchers and students before, and after, they arrive in Japan, to help them settle smoothly into life at Tohoku University. The center also offers language support and help navigating official customs and procedures such as visiting the ward office, setting up a bank account and procuring necessities.
