Tohoku University and the University of Washington have set up a joint research fund to encourage collaborative research.
Based on an agreement made by university presidents in September 2024, both universities invited first-round applications from researchers seeking funding for joint projects in the 2025 academic year.
There were 12 applications for funding in this first round. Following a joint review carried out by both universities, the following four interdisciplinary joint research projects have been approved.
The fund will provide financial support for four projects for up to one academic year beginning in April 2025.
