Junken Aoki has recently been named as a Research Professor at Tohoku University. He was nominated by department heads and then chosen by a select committee as an expert in his field of study. The title took effect from January 1, 2018.
The Research Professor System is a program that supports professorial staff who have made a sustained contribution towards academic excellence. To qualify, candidates should have received a certain amount of funding, or supported a specific project through playing a central role or securing funds.
The activities of Research Professors are expected to inspire other teaching staff and students, to promote research at the university and contribute to the development of society through their work.
