Ukraine Humanitarian Support Fund Established

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia in late February has created a serious humanitarian crisis in the country. Ukrainian researchers at Tohoku University have recently reached out for assistance to evacuate their families, and the university's international support staff is exploring channels, including working with alumni who have offered their support.

To help them, and the many other Ukrainian students and researchers living in Japan who still have family back home, Tohoku University has established a Ukraine Humanitarian Support Fund.

The Tohoku University Fund and Alumni Association (Shuyukai) - organisers of the fundraiser - will leverage their experience providing emergency support following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Activities to offer essential aid and support are currently being planned, and the fundraiser is underway.

Tohoku University is calling on everyone in its community - including students and staff, and alumni members here in Japan and abroad - to form a network of support, and to offer help where possible.
