Fukushima Prefecture and Tohoku University signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in March, in which the university will offer a course titled "Reconstruction and Rebirth of Fukushima" in the second semester of this academic year.
As a special kick-off event, Masao Uchibori, the governor of Fukushima Prefecture, will give a lecture on campus on July 11. He will talk about the challenges following the unprecedented combination of disasters that hit Fukushima in March 2011 - the Great East Japan Earthquake, the tsunami, and the accident at the Daiichi Nuclear plant.
This will be followed by a panel discussion with the governor, led by EVP for Co-creation Strategy, Disaster Reconstruction and Regeneration Keiichi Sasaki. Tohoku University students are invited to attend the event in person, to ask questions and share their thoughts on how they can contribute to the future development of Fukushima. Please be aware that this event will be held entirely in Japanese.
