Online Workshop on Biodiversity: From Genes and Species to Ecosystem Services and Resilience

Tohoku University and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) are hosting their 3rd Joint Workshop on Biodiversity from October 24 - 26.

Biodiversity plays a central role in humankind's interaction with the biosphere. It describes the variability and connectivity of life across different levels (from bacteria to plants and animals) as well as dimensions (from genetic to ecological, and from taxonomic to functional).

Since biodiversity covers genomic information, it allows for the reconstruction of the natural history of species and communities. And as biodiversity also influences how redundant ecological functions are represented within ecosystems, it shapes their resilience to anthropogenic impacts.

This online workshop will bring together practitioners and enthusiasts of biodiversity research from Tohoku University and OIST. They will lead discussions from multiple angles, with the aim of discovering complementary perspectives and collaborative opportunities.

This event is in English and registration is required.

Date and time: October 24 - 26, 2022
