15th Materials Science School for Young Scientists

From August 29~31, the Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University will host the 15th Materials Science School for Young Scientists. It will be held in tandem with a symposium to celebrate the 30th anniversary since Dr. Yoshihito Yoshizawa and colleagues published the first academic paper on nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys.

The conference aims to bring together young researchers and experts, so that students can learn first-hand from the inventors of FINEMET, NANOPERM, and Nanogranular soft magnetic material how their ideas originated.

Young researchers will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials. They will also be able to share their ideas through presentations and poster sessions.
Seminars will be given by well-known scientists in the field of materials science.

  • Dr. Y. Yoshizawa - inventor of FINEMET
  • Dr. G. Herzer - Vacuumschmelze GmbH
  • Prof. K. Suzuki - Monash University
  • Prof. M. McHenry - Carnegie Mellon University
