About this year's theme

The TEDxTohokuUniversity 2019 conference aims to bring students, academic staff, alumni and the people of Sendai together to discuss Tohoku's future. This year's theme "Palette," is open to interpretation.

A palette supplies the artist with a range of colors for their creations. They can be mixed and blended to produce entirely new hues of their own. Through connecting with our wider community, we hope to inspire new ideas that can be used in your personal palette.

What is TED?

TED is a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas, most commonly in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics -- from science to business to global issues - in more than 110 languages.

Following in the successful footsteps of TED, TEDx is an independently organized event that similarly aims to encourage the sharing of ideas in communities around the world.

What is TEDx?

The difference between TED and TEDx events are that the former takes more of a global approach while the latter typically focuses on a local community that concentrates on local voices. The 'x' in TEDx stands for independently organized TED event.

TEDxTohokuUniversity, as an individually organized branch of the famous TED talks, provides a platform for the University and its various stakeholders both within and outside of the context of the university. The driving concept behind TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) incites the sharing of multidisciplinary innovations, ideas and inspiring stories with a broad audience both on and offline.
