The winter 2026 edition of the Tohoku University Engineering Short Programme (TESP) - an intensive combination of laboratory-based activities with an entrepreneurship module - will be held from December 3 - 18. Applications are now open.

The overarching theme this year is "Resilient Essential Systems," and participants will explore how science and engineering can contribute to making the systems that support everyday life and society more resilient to disruption and change.

Working in multicultural teams, participants will connect insights gained through research with societal needs and consider pathways towards practical implementation.

Programme and Laboratory Activity Module:

This programme combines academic, entrepreneurial and intercultural learning through:

• Laboratory and research activities at Tohoku University
• Entrepreneurship-oriented project-based learning
• Cultural experiences (including a field trip)
• Final pitch and presentation

For the laboratory module, participants will be asked to indicate a preferred field from the following list at the time of application:

• Chemical and Biological Engineering
• Disaster Science
• Semiconductor Engineering
