The Tohoku Forum for Creativity is honored to host Professor Martin Hairer, recipient of the 2014 Fields Medal, for a special lecture titled "The Hidden Mathematics of Chance: On Coin Tosses, Atoms and Forest Fires."
This lecture will be held in conjunction with the International Conference on Stochastic Processes and Complex Systems, part of the TFC's thematic programme on "Uncovering Causality in Our Complex World."

Hairer is recognized for his pioneering work on stochastic partial differential equations and the mathematical foundations of randomness in complex systems. In this lecture, he will explore how deep mathematical structures underlie seemingly simple random phenomena - from flipping a coin to the behavior of atomic particles and the dynamics of wildfires.
Date and time: August 29 (Fri), 4:30 - 5:45 p.m.
Venue: TOKYO ELECTRON House of Creativity, 3F Lecture Theatre, Katahira Campus, Tohoku University (Map)
