COVID-19 Prevention: Major Changes to Graduation and Entrance Ceremonies

In line with measures taken across the country to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Tohoku University has made the following adjustments to the upcoming graduation and entrance ceremonies.

Graduation Ceremony: March 25, 2020 (Wednesday)

The ceremony at Kamei Arena Sendai has been cancelled for the safety of students and staff. Instead, a smaller event will be held on campus with only selected student representatives in attendance.

There will be a live stream of the event, and graduating students are urged to participate by watching it online at home. Details of the broadcast, as well as instructions on how students can receive their certificates, will be announced closer to the date.

Entrance Ceremony: April 3, 2020 (Friday)

This is expected to go ahead as planned, but to reduce the number of people in the arena, the event will only be open to staff and students directly involved in the ceremony. Parents, friends and family will not be permitted to attend.

Time: 10 a.m.
Venue: Kamei Arena Sendai
Address: Tomizawa 1-4-1, Taihaku, Sendai City
Dress code: formal
