Under the University for International Research Excellence (UREX1) framework, Tohoku University is ramping up its initiatives to reform its educational structure. To support the recruitment of talented students from all over the world and to enhance the learning environment, the University is strengthening its support systems. As part of these efforts, a new scholarship program will be introduced for international students enrolling from the 2027 academic year onward.
The program is designed to provide support to hard-working students and to contribute to the continued development of the University's top-level educational and research plans. This is just one step in an overarching plan to foster an environment where researchers can gather and truly shine. Tohoku University will continue to support the growth of researchers into world-renowned talent with far-reaching impact.
Eligibility:
International students enrolling at Tohoku University from the 2027 academic year onward (Undergraduate programs, Master's programs, and Professional degree programs)
Award Amount:
Scholarship covering either the full amount or one-half of the tuition fee.
Number of Recipients:
Approximately the top one-third of admitted students, based on academic performance.
Selection Criteria:
Determined based on entrance examination results, academic performance after enrollment, and other relevant considerations.
※Further details regarding the scholarship program will be announced on the University's website and other official channels once finalized. In addition, the University is reviewing the framework of support for students who enrolled prior to the 2026 academic year.
※The existing tuition exemption program based on financial need will conclude at the end of the 2026 academic year and will transition to this new scholarship program beginning in the 2027 academic year.
